In Parker County, a Texas prison guard owes his life to inmates who broke out of their cell to help the man who was in medical distress. Several inmates kicked out the door of their holding cell to help the collapsed guard who was out of view of security cameras. The men were being held in the basement of the District Courts Building in Weatherford.
Guards arrived with guns drawn, but realized the inmates were helping the man. “They thought it was a fight,” said inmate Floyd Smith. “They thought we were taking over.” Another inmate Nick Kelton. said, “He just fell over. Looked like an act. Could have died right there.” Kelton and other inmates yelled for help and then busted down the holding room door.
The guard had no pulse. They started CPR until paramedics were able to help the guard re-gain a pulse.
