It’s official, after Sunday nights Olympic trials five athletes have been selected to go the 2016 Rio Olympic Games.
The ladies representing the U.S.A are Simone Biles, Gabby Douglas, Aly Raisman, Laurie Hernandez and Madison Kocian were announced as the team headed to Rio at the conclusion of the two-night trials on Sunday.
It was no surprise to gymnastics fans that this is the team representing our nation, even though Douglas had several mistakes and two falls during the trials.
Douglas and Raisman are the sole returning members from the 2012 London Olympics “Fab 5” team who brought home several gold metals.
Three alternates will travel with the team to Rio. They include Mykayla Skinner, Ragan Smith and Ashton Locklear.
Biles is the heavy favorite on this years team. She won the Olympic trials all-around, giving her the lone automatic spot to the team.
Marta Karolyi will join U.S.A. as the team coordinator. This will be the last season for the gymnastics great, as she will retire after the Games.
