Demolition work began Monday at the Historic Fort Worth Stockyards.
More than a dozen buildings will be coming down over the next few weeks as part of a multi-million dollar redevelopment project.
“We got to move forward but that also requires some things to change and maybe some things to go away,” said Kerby Smith, senior vice president for Majestic Realty.
Crumbling structures is the main cause of the redevelopment costing $175 million.
A staggering $40 million will be used to revitalize and preserve the historic horse and mule barns.
Musician Brad Hines would like to see developers keep true to its original feel, “I’m hoping that anything they do doesn’t take away from the main draw of The Stockyards. If they build around it and it brings more people here then that’s great, but I hope they keep that in mind.”
The project will also include a historic walking tour.
