Fort Worth has recognized that cameras are everywhere and starting Friday, they are launching the “Community Camera Program.” The hope is that the database will include all security cameras, so the police can access them immediately when there is a crime.
“Nowadays, these cameras are prevalent. They’re everywhere,” said Sgt. Marc Povero. “And we recognize that.”
This program is voluntary and private. The police will not ask for the password to your system or direct access, only your contact information so they can access your video in case of a crime.
Fort Worth is not the only city in DFW to try this type of program, Plano has been using the same type of system for years.
Plano has 150-200 people enrolled in the program, so far.
You can now sign up online. Look for a link then on the Fort Worth Police Department’s website.
